ABOUT THE WORK
Participation at the Exhibition ARCHITECTURE | LANDSCAPE (2012)

"The Haunting", "Last night I dreamt I went to Manderley again"    The large scale photographs recall elements of Victorian poesy as well as Hollywood Suspense. Huge palm leaves darken the entrance to paths leading in flowered gardens - sceneries that seem to be standing outside of time, opening up a space for visions, memories andnightmares. Depicting artificially created landscapes such as conservatories and botanical gardens theimages move within a frame of reference of Victorian literature and its Hollywood interpretations of the 1930s and 40s, associating a wild and threatening nature with the leading actresses. Frozen in the first wave of feminism, burned into memory, like a bad dream re-lived again and again. The title "Last night I dreamt I went to Manderley again" is the first line in Alfred Hitchcock`s "Rebecca" based on the novel by Daphne de Maurier. The main actress looks back to her days at the gloomy country estate "Manderley" where in spite of the house's beauty, she senses an atmosphere of doom about it and gradually feels more and more haunted. Recalling elements of Victorian poesy as well as Hollywood Suspense, Tina Ribarits` photographs of a wild and threatening nature seem to be standing outside of time - frozen in the first wave of feminism, like a bad dream re-lived again and again.
